Lts. Kevin Kelley and Vincent Russell are killed in the line of duty.

Kelly and Russell are killed and several children at the nearby Mission Park daycare center are slightly injured when Ladder Truck 26 loses its brakes and crashes into a wall at 835 Huntington Avenue. The truck was descending Parker Hill Avenue and returning to the nearby Huntington Avenue Firehouse, the busiest in the city. The crash is almost identical to one that occurred in 1950.
